PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE - September 2021

This will be my last message as President of SIArb. I cannot quite believe 4 years have passed. I will be stepping into the role of Immediate Past President after our AGM on 27 September 2021. I look forward to continuing to serve within Council in that capacity. I will always have fond memories of my time at SIArb right back to when I first volunteered to work in Naresh Mahtani’s 25th anniversary celebrations committee. Since then, I have served as Editor of the Newsletter, as Treasurer and Vice President as well. I have been blessed by the camaraderie of fellow committee and Council members as well as the mentorship of past Presidents such as Johnny Tan, Mohan Pillay and Chan Leng Sun SC. It is my hope that SIArb will continue to grow from strength to strength as a leading provider of quality training and education in international arbitration.

One exciting initiative is the launch of the SCMA-SIArb Maritime Arbitrator’s Fellowship Course on 1 Oct 2021. This course will comprise SIArb’s Fellowship Assessment Course (“FAC”) and SCMA’s Maritime Arbitrator Accreditation Program (“MAAP”) and is suitable for aspiring maritime arbitrators who have met the criteria for admission to the FAC. Existing Fellows of SIArb are also encouraged to consider signing up for the MAAP. The inaugural run of the Course will commence with SIArb’s FAC 2021 intake from 1 Oct – 8 November 2021 with the inaugural MAAP component being conducted on 29 October 2021. We look forward to this being the start of a long and fruitful relationship with SCMA.
